A résumé, not a handicap
The rating exists for one reason: to keep the competition honest. A handicap decides how many games you are spotted. A résumé decides which room you play in and then gets out of the way. The GPP rating is the second kind, and that is the whole design.
The question everybody actually asks
Will I be out of my depth?
It is the first thing anybody wants to know, so it is answered first. Everybody plays the same game: there is no handicap, no spot and no head start. The number decides which room you play in, not how many games you are given.
No handicap.
No spot, no ball, no head start. The rating matches you with the right room, it never hands out games.
Nobody can change your rating.
The ability to edit a rating does not exist in our software. Not hidden, not restricted, not built.
Nobody judges what you meant.
No rule in GPP asks whether you missed on purpose, not about you, not about anyone.
How it is worked out
It is a win rate, and it reads like one
Everyone starts at 500, and the number is whole. Your rating measures your chance of taking one rack off the reference player, which means it is not a band or a grade, it is a probability you can check against your own evening. A 500 point gap is six to one odds.

How to read it
Confidence is a count, not a margin
Alongside the number you see how many games it was built from, "Established, 417 verified racks" rather than "624 ± 5". A count is legible in a way a confidence band never is, and it is the same fact.
Why it moved
You will always be told why it moved
One screen, with the arithmetic, at the same time every week: which matches counted, what each one did, and what the number was before. A rating you cannot audit is a grade somebody gave you.
Who can change it
Nobody local can touch it
No captain, no operator, no local official can change your rating or refuse you. The capability does not exist in our software, not restricted, not logged, not permissioned. Not built.

A GPP rating describes how you have played inside GPP. It is not an import of any other system's number and does not pretend to travel, it earns its meaning here, from racks played here.
And nothing on this page is a promise about a specific band, threshold or number of matches. Those move while the system is young, and printing them would make them promises.
